Nursing professionals place the human experience at the center of their work, in all situations and age groups. Thus, as a member of the International Council of Nurses (ICN), the Swiss Nursing Association (SBK) has adopted the ICN's definition of professional nursing: "Professional nursing comprises the autonomous provision and care, alone or in cooperation with other professionals, of people of all ages, families or communities, as well as groups and social communities, whether sick or healthy, in all life situations (settings). Nursing includes the promotion of health, the prevention of disease, and the care and support of sick, disabled, and dying people.Other key tasks of nursing include advocacy, the promotion of a safe environment, research, participation in health policy making, and in health care management and education.(Official translation of the ICN Definition of Nursing recognized by the professional associations of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland)."
